Friends, I really love Thanksgiving. I love the family time, I love the idea of celebrating all we are thankful for, and I love going to my mother’s house and lying on the floor while my children run around me and my mom cooks an amazeballs meal. I try to help, but she rushes me out of the kitchen, and, to be honest, I am so very thankful she does that. So when my friend Jessica from Herd Management asked me what I was NOT Thankful for on Turkey Day, I hung my head in shame because while my kids have inherited my love of Nutella, the beach, and Charlie Brown cartoons, they did not inherit my love for the Macy ‘s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I love the dancers, the floats, the bands, and get a little thrill when Santa wraps up the parade. But my kids really aren’t interested. So every year, I watch by myself and yell “Hey, come and see this giant float of Hello Kitty. You’ll love it!” only to be ignored. Sad, but true.
Head over to see what my other blogger pals had to add to the Not Thankful List. Seriously, it’s a hoot. Then come back and tell me what you are NOT Thankful for this year!
This is a hard one because there is way too much that I’m thankful for right now and it’s in the forefront of my mind. Interesting thing to ask instead of the typical “what are you thankful for” though . 🙂
We lived in NYC for years and my kids didn’t care too much about watching it either. Even now they couldn’t care less.
I am going to the Macy’s Day Parade and I will not be very thankful if it’s raining like they say it might.
The only kind of parades I went to were school parades when I was in middle school, but it would be so cool to go the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade someday.
ROFLMAO!
We used to watch it as a kid but when I got older I had to work ( I’m Canadian) so I haven’t watched it in years….
Perhaps this year!
Girl, me too! I used to LOVE watching the Macy’s Parade every Thanksgiving and was so bummed when my kids had no interest! What??!!
We stopped watching the parade and now head to our gym where they have a 2 hour work out for families. I feel we get off the coach but can also catch some highlights of the parade when we return.
Ha ha! My kids don’t care about the parade either but, for me, it’s totally a Thanksgiving tradition.
I can watch parades on TV but I have zero desire to go to one. Fortunately my family feels the same.
I don’t think my kids ever watched it either. to be fair, I don’t think they were really fond of any parades.
My kids love the parades that they can watch in person – and will watch the Macy’s Day Parade randomly – not like my sisters and I used to watch. We made an event of watching it. My daughter only watches to see the parts of New York she wants to see and my son to see his fave balloon character. *sigh*
You know I get so excited about watching the parade every year but my kids could care less too. I am hoping to get to see if live someday and just maybe they would be interested then.
I have so much to be thankful for that I can’t think of anything I am not really thankful for. My boys love the parade so I guess that helps?!?!?!??!
I never think about what I am not thankful for. I to spend a lot of time thinking and appreciating what I am thankful for, but no time looking at the negative side of the equation.
I LOVE the Macy’s Day parade!! My kids get bored but I will have it on!
I love the parade also. Was the big thing growing up when we would all pile in front of the tv to watch.
I love watching the parades on TV. I would love to see one in person sometime.
I love watching the parade too. I remember watching it with my family when I was younger.
The Macy’s Day Thanksgiving parade is what I grew up watching every 4th Thursday in November. My kids could care less. My mom would be cooking and I would be living room parade watching.
Girl, this made me laugh so hard. I have always had this idyllic image of snuggling up with my kids in our PJs watching the parade, marveling at the wonder of it all…but they could give a fig. And frankly, I’m getting exasperated with the big NBC infomercial it’s become. But it’s good to see I’m not alone. I think unless you’re flying giant balloons over their heads, kids are like “meh”. lol
